Admissions

At Moorlands Schools Federation we provide education for pupils from Reception age until the end of Year Six. This gives the opportunity to ensure continuity and progression in your child’s learning over the complete primary age range.

The regulations for admissions procedures for maintained schools are set out by the Local Authority (information is available from the school office), and all admissions to Moorlands Schools Federation are the responsibility of the Local Authority.

Bath and Northeast Somerset Council (BANES) provide a comprehensive booklet setting out the criteria and process for admissions to all schools. Applying can sometimes be complicated but we are always here to help and further details can be obtained by calling the BANES Admissions Team direct on 01225 394312 or on their website at

Children are admitted separately to the Infant and Junior Schools. This means you need to apply for a school place when your child is due to start school in Reception AND again in Year 2 for the start of the Junior School.  Our planned admission numbers (PAN) for Moorlands Infant School (Early Years Foundation Stage) is 60 and for Moorlands Junior School (Y3) is 64.

Applications are required for:

Reception: Children who are five between 1st September and 31st August.

Year3: Children who are eight between 1st September and 31st August.

Please note that the Local Authority state there is no automatic right of admission to the Junior School class by virtue of having attended the Infants. However the schools are ‘paired schools’ for the purposes of sibling applications.

Choosing a school for your child is one of the most important decisions you will make. We recommend that you make a visit so we can show you all the facilities on offer at Moorlands as well as the exciting learning that is taking place.

Once we are notified of the children that have been allocated a place at our school, we will contact you with an invitation to take part in our induction programme. This provides an opportunity for you and your child to learn more about the school and meet the class teachers and for us to find out more about your child.  When children are entering partway through a school year we work closely with parents to create an induction process that makes transition as smooth as possible.
